Round the world tickets

Its harder than you think to sort out round the world tickets. Tom found out that there are two main airline conglomerates that offer multi flight/stop over packages, Star Alliance and The Great Escapade. I’ve since chatted to colleagues about these and Star Alliance has been highly recommended.

Both sites feature trip calculators and I’ve been trying to plan main flights for the last couple of days. I’ve been working on the following point to points to find out what is possible:

  • Fly London to Chicago
  • Drive Chicago to LA
  • Fly LA to Lima (Peru)
  • Do Inca trail
  • Fly Lima to Tokyo
  • Fly Tokyo to Singapore
  • Explore Thailand and/or surrounding countries
  • Fly Singapore to Sydney
  • Spend month in Australia
  • Can fly using local flights from Sydney to New Zealand.

The problem seems to be fitting in a South America stop over. It been suggested to go from Lima to Hawaii and then on to Tokyo. The problem is that these packages don’t have enough available miles to cover the route.

The more I think about it the more I want to get the main flights sorted and then we can plan where to go based around that.

I love this bike, some would say too much with the amount of time I spend maintaining it! But if I'm going to be going 50mph down a mountain I want to know its in good shape.

About this blog

Welcome to the personal blog of Robert A J Ford, a professional interaction designer and developer based in the UK.

I started this blog in 2007 to record my cycle training leading up to the Etape. I've never been one for diaries but this format works well with my job and lifestyle so I expanded it to record details of other training and events.

As the blog grew it became a space where friends and family followed my activities. Their feedback has inspired me to keep writing. I hope you find something of interest and please feel free to leave comments.
