Day 99 – Over the bridge

Took an early ferry to the city this morning to visit the Rocks markets. As markets go this was a pretty good one for all you arts and crafts lovers. With nothing parting us from our money we left the market and climbed the steps up to the bridge.

The walk over took about half an hour and with the sun out we enjoyed one of the best views of the harbour and Opera House. On the other side we wandered through a market, setup under the bridge approach, through to Luna Park, a fun fair on the shores of the harbour. Its from this area that I’m planning to celebrate New Year’s eve as I’ve heard its where the locals go.

Retuning across the bridge Tom left to meet meet up with old friends and I made my way up one of the bridges pylons. I was going to give it a miss, thinking that the views were adequate from the road deck. I was glad I didn’t walk by as I found the exhibit inside and the views from the top informative and stunning respectively. The extra height of the viewing area puts you above the fences and allows you to freedom to view the harbour in all directions. I stayed up there until I saw the Manly ferry on the horizon.

I met back up with Tom in the afternoon and we were joined by Aaron for a bit of time on the beach. I hired a long board and managed to catch all of three and a bit waves; one being good enough to keep me hooked. I think I may become a better paddler than surfer by the time I leave!

We stayed out until the cloud hid the sun and the wind started to pick up. Not being worn out from my time on the sea I thought I’d go for a run. I opted to take the coastal path that runs from the harbour side of town rather than the beach. The first few miles we done on a scenic path but turning onto the streets I encountered a series of steep hill. I took what felt like a wrong turn had to navigate back by my Garmin. In the end I found the beach but not before adding on a couple of extra miles. I think I’ll sleep well tonight!

About this blog

Welcome to the personal blog of Robert A J Ford, a professional interaction designer and developer based in the UK.

I started this blog in 2007 to record my cycle training leading up to the Etape. I've never been one for diaries but this format works well with my job and lifestyle so I expanded it to record details of other training and events.

As the blog grew it became a space where friends and family followed my activities. Their feedback has inspired me to keep writing. I hope you find something of interest and please feel free to leave comments.
