Day 83 – No sky, no dive

Awoke early to be ready for our pickup by the sky dive bus to Mission Beach. The guy on reception pointed out the angry looking sky and said that they usually cancel if you don’t see blue sky. Still we had to wait for the bus to pick us up and when it arrived we were told they weren’t sure. A couple of pickups later and we were parked outside the sky dive companies office waiting for news. Half and hour later we were told it was cancelled. Luckily we have a few spare days so were able to rearrange.

With not much to do we mooched around the shopping mall before heading to another cinema to buy tickets for Australia. Back at the motel we had a bit of down time before lunch then went back to the cinema. I found the trailers really annoying as most of them showed clips of the film. The film on the other hand I found to be entertaining and it certainly didn’t feel like a three hour film.

Leaving our air conditioned haven it wasn’t too warm outside so, after changing, I went for another training session on the esplanade. Really enjoying getting back it some regular training and the setting makes it extra special. It reminds me of how I feel after a hard ergo session then sitting on the boat club balcony looking out over the river.

Not up to much else in the evening as its another early start for rafting tomorrow. It is quite tempting to go out for a few drinks as Cairns seems like quite the party town but I don’t want the hangover ruining my day. I must be getting old!

About this blog

Welcome to the personal blog of Robert A J Ford, a professional interaction designer and developer based in the UK.

I started this blog in 2007 to record my cycle training leading up to the Etape. I've never been one for diaries but this format works well with my job and lifestyle so I expanded it to record details of other training and events.

As the blog grew it became a space where friends and family followed my activities. Their feedback has inspired me to keep writing. I hope you find something of interest and please feel free to leave comments.
