Day 53 – A change of plan

Had a bit of bad news today, getting quite tired of it now. We had planned to spend a night in Agues Calientes after the trek to unwind in the hot spas and generally relax. Unfortunately we´ve been told that there´s going to be a train strike that day so we´ve got to come back a day early.
¦lt;br /> Faced with having another day in Cusco, 3 in Lima, 3 in LA and limited time in New Zealand we´ve changed our flights. I wasn´t particularly keen to go back to Lima so now we´re flying from Cusco to Lima to Costa Rica to LA in one day, the 5th. We the have two nights in LA before flying to NZ on the 7th, arriving on the 9th. Flight numbers are the same and its only cost us $50 more.
¦lt;br /> We´ll now have 3 days in North Island before flying to the south for 7 days. Then we return to the North for 6 days. Sounds complex but we didn´t want to have to change the internal flights as well.
¦lt;br /> Another factor we considered was the crashing dollar; its really starting to make things expensive. A plus side for NZ and OZ is that the pound is much stronger there and rising.

After sorting things out we visited the Inca site of Qoricancha, located a block from our hostel. It is the remains of an Inca palace and an underground museum contains lots of artifacts, including some sickening mummified remains.

That got us back into tourist mode so we set out to make the most of our tourist pass and visit some of the cities museums. In a couple of hours we´d visited The Museum of Regional History, The Museum of Popular Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art. The latter two were the most interesting.

Managed to get in a gym session in the early evening. Training at 3300m is pretty hard work, but I felt good for it afterwards.

About this blog

Welcome to the personal blog of Robert A J Ford, a professional interaction designer and developer based in the UK.

I started this blog in 2007 to record my cycle training leading up to the Etape. I've never been one for diaries but this format works well with my job and lifestyle so I expanded it to record details of other training and events.

As the blog grew it became a space where friends and family followed my activities. Their feedback has inspired me to keep writing. I hope you find something of interest and please feel free to leave comments.
