Day 108 – And then there was one

Had a fairly quite morning as the weather has gone pretty dull again. I spent sometime trying to find a hotel in Hong Kong and after finally finding something reasonable on the island received a “sorry there’s a problem” email later in the afternoon.

Late morning Tom’s sister returned from the UK for a few hours before flying out to New Zealand. We headed out into town for a coffee and chin wag. It was strange hearing about back home and Tom’s families Christmas preparations. I’ve not felt much of the Christmas spirit but a stocking Tom left me cheered me up some what. Not long after we’d finished coffee it was time for Tom and Jac to depart for the airport. It was surreal seeing Tom leave and I don’t think its quite sunk in. After spending so much time together and sharing the adventure it doesn’t feel right being here without him.

I had a couple of hours to myself to before my friend from the rowing club, Sandy picked me up. He’d been quite difficult to get in contact with, life without a mobile can be inconvenient, but eventually we managed to sort out a time and place to meet. We sat looking over manly beach for a while catching up before heading over to Bondi Junction, South of Sydney. There I’ll be stopping in the spare room at his brother, Nick’s apartment. The drive over to Bondi took us through the harbour tunnel; I didn’t know one existed.

The three of us headed into Bondi for dinner and a couple of drinks. It was pretty funny listening to the North-South rivalry that exists between the two brothers, as it does with many others. I wasn’t so keen on Bondi last time but perhaps spending a little time in the place shall change my perspective.

About this blog

Welcome to the personal blog of Robert A J Ford, a professional interaction designer and developer based in the UK.

I started this blog in 2007 to record my cycle training leading up to the Etape. I've never been one for diaries but this format works well with my job and lifestyle so I expanded it to record details of other training and events.

As the blog grew it became a space where friends and family followed my activities. Their feedback has inspired me to keep writing. I hope you find something of interest and please feel free to leave comments.
