Merribel Long Weekend

Just got back from spending a long weekend, Thursday to Monday, in Merribel. The long weekend format worked well; with an early start on the Monday we made it onto the snow by the afternoon. We also had the advantage of a quiet Saturday as the resorts emptied due to change over day.

We booked with Flexible Breaks who’s chalet was cosy but functional with added sauna as a bonus.  The staff, Lee and Lloyd, were superb and were more like part of the group than anything else. The conditions were perfect for sun bathing on the first few days, leading to a bit of slush on the lower slopes in the afternoons. The pistes were still in pretty good condition but now powder or good off piste action to be found. It was only on the Sunday that the weather turned and the clouds rolled in to reduce visibility.

Being with a mixed group I spent some time hurtling around with Sandy, who was skiing, or practicing riding switch with Steve, Sarah and Megan. With all the switch riding practice I’d have felt confident to try a few tricks if there had been soft snow to land in.

About this blog

Welcome to the personal blog of Robert A J Ford, a professional interaction designer and developer based in the UK.

I started this blog in 2007 to record my cycle training leading up to the Etape. I've never been one for diaries but this format works well with my job and lifestyle so I expanded it to record details of other training and events.

As the blog grew it became a space where friends and family followed my activities. Their feedback has inspired me to keep writing. I hope you find something of interest and please feel free to leave comments.
