Snowdon

This weekend some friends and I summited Snowdon via the Crib Goch ridge route. Had we bitten off more than we could chew?

With new kit in abundance and legs built for cycling it was time to start preparing for the Everest Expedition.

I took all the kit I’m planning on using for the Everest trip so I could see how my pack felt. I also wanted to break in my new walking boots.

There had been some discussion about routes and after a favourable weather report we ended up taking the ridge up and the Miner’s down.

The Crib Goch ridge route was stunning and far more technical than I had expected. In places we climbed, others scrambling but always having to watch our step. This was brought home by the sight of a rescue helicopter hovering below us.

Conditions remained favourable with cloud only coming in above 900 meters. Where there were breaks we received spectacular views.

The only time I felt the cold was when we got stuck in a long traffic jam of walkers on the ridge. Not the best place to be hanging around!

By the time we reached the summit the clouds had closed in and the wind whipped up.  Yet another Snowdon climb without a view from the top; maybe next time eh?!

About this blog

Welcome to the personal blog of Robert A J Ford, a professional interaction designer and developer based in the UK.

I started this blog in 2007 to record my cycle training leading up to the Etape. I've never been one for diaries but this format works well with my job and lifestyle so I expanded it to record details of other training and events.

As the blog grew it became a space where friends and family followed my activities. Their feedback has inspired me to keep writing. I hope you find something of interest and please feel free to leave comments.
