Everest day 4 – Monju to Namche Bazaar

The first day of serious climbing. We left the river and traversed the valley on high wire bridges. Oh and I got my first view of Everest!

This morning followed the trekking pattern of big breakfast, sore legs, stunning scenery and mindless chat.

The path today crisscrossed the valley via wire suspension bridges. Following an hour of flats we hit the first proper climb and the group soon split up. When we found ourselves at the front we stopped until we were at the back. Hopefully this will help with the altitude acclimatization.

We found ourselves at the front when we stopped at a viewing point. Luckily we just caught a glimpse of the side of Everest and the peak of Lhotse. By the time the rest of the group arrived cloud had obscured everything bar the briefest glimpse. As the group departed we hung to the back and just as we left the cloud lifted to reveal my first view of the summit. I knew we were high but it made me feel like we were on the ground.

First view of Everest

We reached Namche Bazaar in time for lunch. In the afternoon we did a bit of shopping foe the best of the fake goods.

About this blog

Welcome to the personal blog of Robert A J Ford, a professional interaction designer and developer based in the UK.

I started this blog in 2007 to record my cycle training leading up to the Etape. I've never been one for diaries but this format works well with my job and lifestyle so I expanded it to record details of other training and events.

As the blog grew it became a space where friends and family followed my activities. Their feedback has inspired me to keep writing. I hope you find something of interest and please feel free to leave comments.
