First scull for a while

What is it with sport and early mornings? Sunday morning and i’m persuaded to go down the rowing club.

Just my luck that there was a dragon boat regatta going on; meaning upstream rowing only. This would involve ne negotiating the bridges in a scull for the first time.

I set out with Rosie and managed the narrow second bridge without incident. I had to hold back for while because I felt really unsteady in the boat. Eventually I caught up with Rosie and went through some exercises with her. Bless her for being patient as the early morning and lack of confidence had made me pretty darn grumpy.

We were later joined by Paddy and Steve. Paddy took me under his wing and coached me as we went further upstream. With his patience I started to get my rhythm back. There still a lot of work to be done but I’m hoping with some  practice and coaching I’ll be able to do the sculler’s head on the Thames.

I love this bike, some would say too much with the amount of time I spend maintaining it! But if I'm going to be going 50mph down a mountain I want to know its in good shape.

About this blog

Welcome to the personal blog of Robert A J Ford, a professional interaction designer and developer based in the UK.

I started this blog in 2007 to record my cycle training leading up to the Etape. I've never been one for diaries but this format works well with my job and lifestyle so I expanded it to record details of other training and events.

As the blog grew it became a space where friends and family followed my activities. Their feedback has inspired me to keep writing. I hope you find something of interest and please feel free to leave comments.
