Pre race nerves

It’s been another tortuous few days of feeling I’ll. This time it’s on my chest and knocked me for six. Still I was determined to see how I felt on race day so headed off to the B&B in Bourne.

The B&B title doesn’t do Cawthorpe Hall or it’s proprietor justice. I was met by a friendly dog who instinctively led me to his owner at the door. I was greeted with tea, biscuits, and all the hospitality of visiting relatives.

I watched the sun set over rolling fields and settled down to finish reading “Moods of future joys” by Alistar Humphreys. His journey is inspirational and left me feeling that I shouldn’t complain about tomorrows ride. Yet as I finished the book I let out a deep chesty cough and wondered what the hell I was doing contemplating riding tomorrow.

I’ve decided to see how I feel and choose my route accordingly. Not point in doing long term damage for short terms achievement, although I would like to say I’ve completed the long route.

Trek Madone 5.0 (2007)
I love this bike, some would say too much with the amount of time I spend maintaining it! But if I'm going to be going 50mph down a mountain I want to know its in good shape.

About this blog

Welcome to the personal blog of Robert A J Ford, a professional interaction designer and developer based in the UK.

I started this blog in 2007 to record my cycle training leading up to the Etape. I've never been one for diaries but this format works well with my job and lifestyle so I expanded it to record details of other training and events.

As the blog grew it became a space where friends and family followed my activities. Their feedback has inspired me to keep writing. I hope you find something of interest and please feel free to leave comments.
