2nd morning ride

Distance: 38.8 miles
Riders:

  • Cadence Kelly
  • I need leg warmers, flash dance Phil
  • The carbon kid, aka Jon
  • Road runner Rob

Two early starts in a row I must be mad! But again I felt awake after the first few miles. My legs felt good until the 14% edge hill where I could feel the aches of the Boston coming back. Riding uphill standing up proved to be difficult on the damp ground as the slick rear tyre kept spinning. I tried sitting for a while but I just can’t deliver the power in that position.

Our pace was varied, usually slowing for a natter, but enjoyable. I averaged over 17mph for the distance so was quite happy. I’ll be interested to see how my legs feel doing that distance after an easier week.

The chill and damp morning has got me thinking about winter training. Not sure if I should get a winter bike or slicks for mine. Also going to invest in a decent jacket.

I love this bike, some would say too much with the amount of time I spend maintaining it! But if I'm going to be going 50mph down a mountain I want to know its in good shape.

About this blog

Welcome to the personal blog of Robert A J Ford, a professional interaction designer and developer based in the UK.

I started this blog in 2007 to record my cycle training leading up to the Etape. I've never been one for diaries but this format works well with my job and lifestyle so I expanded it to record details of other training and events.

As the blog grew it became a space where friends and family followed my activities. Their feedback has inspired me to keep writing. I hope you find something of interest and please feel free to leave comments.
